Q. Why are round and oblong tanks best for keeping bait fish?
A. Fin fish used for bait naturally school in a circular pattern, so round and oblong tanks are the best choice. Sea World, The Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Scrips all design and build their tanks round or oblong. These shapes provide the most efficient use of space. Fish held in square or rectangular tanks will round off the corners when they school and swim in a round pattern in a square tank and oblong pattern in rectangular tank.

Locating feeding fish is one of the most important skills a fisherman can develop. You can mark fish on your fish finder and not entice them to strike your lure if they are not in their "feeding zone"!
Most species of fish have a preffered temperature of water that they will actively feed in. Find this area of temperture with fish present and you will greatly increase your chances of catching fish. Remember, fish are cold blooded. In water too cold, fish will be dormant, sluggish and will not feed. In water too warm, they will be seeking a more comfortable environment. So, an understanding of how different temperatures of water break up will help.

Fishing Tactics: Getting Over the Hump

Part of my USMC background was training men to do most anything, from being a gunner on an M1 Tank, to Weapons Marksmanship and everything in between. One of the things I have learned over the years is that if you want to be consistently successful in any sport, there are basic skills that must be mastered. Physical ability alone will only take you so far and it may even raise you to a higher level within a sport but it will not ever replace, nor will it help you in becoming consistently successful.A football team may have the fastest wide receiver in the entire world but if he can’t catch the ball when it’s thrown to him what good is he?
Bass Fishing: Staging & Pre-spawn Bass
Posted on August 8, 2011
I am going to discuss Staging bass but before I do you need to remember this about bass and where they live. Bass live year round in three different water columns. As an example; Shallow 0 to 10 feet, Med 10 to 20, Deep 20 to 40, and Very Deep 40 to 60. When bass start to migrate to their spawning areas expect them to move along those depth lines.Bass that live deep and very deep will move shallow (vertical) in stages and will follow some sort of path way IE; creek channel, a road bed, stump line, a channel point etc. As a bass moves from main lake headed to the back of the creek it will move in stages following the creek channel, a break line, etc stopping on points, channel bends, a hump (large or small), or maybe a sunken brush pile.

So you’ve just finished up the pairing meeting, met your boater for the next day, decided on a meeting spot, and hopefully got a few tips on the type of fishing your going to do tomorrow. (I always like to ask if we’ll be throwing a carolina rig). This is also a good time to ask if at all possible to pull the back seat out for the next day. Space is already limited and that is one less thing to get hung up on. I realize for some, standing for 8 hours straight is grueling, but at this point, thankfully, my health allows me to do it.
